Château de Clermont

The Château de Clermont is a 13th-century castle located in Concorès, France.

History

• The Château de Clermont's history dates back to the Hundred Years' War, during which it was ruined. It was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century or beginning of the 16th century and underwent significant alterations and additions in the 16th and 17th centuries.
• Following major structural rebuilding in the early 2000s, the château has been extensively renovated since, including the building of a basin. The owners have hosted a series of classical music festivals in the grounds since 2007.

Architecture

The Château de Clermont maintains its defensive character and forms a quadrilateral flanked by four round towers. A curtain wall in the north east is opposite to the main corps de logis, while the two other sides were occupied by buildings which are now destroyed.

The principal corps de logis features 16th-century works visible in its remains. The towers are lower than originally constructed. Notable architectural elements include the chapel within a 13th-century tower, which contains a chapel.

The Château de Clermont is located at Chemin de l'Ancienne École in Concorès, France. It is situated in the Lot department of France.

Current Status and Use

The Château de Clermont is privately owned and has no public access. The owners have hosted classical music festivals in the grounds since 2007. Following major structural rebuilding in the early 2000s, the château and barn have been extensively renovated.

Heritage Status

The Château de Clermont was listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture in 1932.
