Location
- The Plassenburg Castle is situated on Festungsberg 26 in Kulmbach, Bavaria, Germany.
History
- The castle was first mentioned in 1135 and has been the seat of the Plassenberg family, a ministerial of the counts of Andechs (later the dukes of Andechs-Meranien).
- Gundeloh v. Blassenberg (Plassenberg) traces its origins back to 1149 with Gundeloh.
- The Hohenzollerns governed from Plassenburg castle their territories in Franconia from 1340 until 1604.
